The week in review: 1/17-1/23
The big report for this week, I went and shot the Women's Rally up in Denton. Did I do this because I was a Democrat? No. Did I do this because I am a Republican? No. Well then why did I do it? I did it because I am a documentarian.
Also, I know that we need to heal the political divide that is splitting the nation. This is a problem as when the citizens are divided it prevents us all from rising to our potential. So how can this divide be crossed. Well, one thing we can do is listen. No, don't listen only so one can prepare a smug rebuttal. No, I mean listen to hear. Some are hurting and afraid. By listening to the other person, not only do they feel validated, but they also cease to be the other. Beyond merely validating, and personalizing the other... perhaps... and hopefully, they might rise above the fear and isolation that some feel to be incredibly suffocating. Also, by you ceasing to see someone else as "the other" they might just see the human in you as well.
If you want to know how I voted this last election, I voted Republican, Libertarian, and Democrat. I voted for who I thought were the best candidates. I knew what the candidates thought because I looked them up on the League of Women's Voters website. I cannot recommend them enough. If you live in Texas the web page is: http://www.lwvtexas.org/ . They are non-partisan and do an excellent job of providing an election guide. Check it out. As for what andydocs will be up to, I have to complete editing "The Eviction" and possibly putting in some of my voice to help guide the viewers. That needs to be done by next Wed for a meeting on Friday 2/3. Meanwhile, one of my favorite watering holes, The Bearded Monk, is having their 2nd Annual Stout and Shout and I will see if I can do a little documentary on that. They are a bar that serves only independent brewers. Festival circut has been slow but I will be sure to keep you all informed. I will let you know how things continue to progress.
