The week in review: 3/21 - 3/37

So there it is. The symbol for Texas History Day. It will be in Austin on April 29. Following the national lead, the theme for this event is Taking a stand. Though students can participate in a wide variety of events, I was asked to judge the student documentaries.

Two years ago I also judged at this conference. It was a tough decision. It was at the end of the semester and I was struggling to keep up with my studies, and was just told earlier that week that I would be allowed to begin production of another documentary (Long story). The cards were on the table... but I said I would go.

I'm glad I did.

In the early morning air I was shocked to find that Austin had the nerve to change since the last time I had been there. Some of my old haunts were gone with high end stores replacing the pedestrian stores that made up for in soul, what they may have lacked in finery. Whose rugged edge and frayed fabric showed evidence that humans used the store. Ah well... you get the picture.

Anyway, it was at the meeting of the judges that I ran into Charles Lara. A gentleman who would acted as the talent scout for Gonzales: Come and Take It!. A film that I am currently in talks to try to get a showing of down in Austin. Will it happen? I will let you know more about that as it develops.
