The week in review 12/25-1/1

So what have I been up to. Well it has been a whirlwind month. It began with me getting "The Eviction" edited into a passable state. Then I had about a week to write my thesis (73 pages). Then, rewrites. Had to move out of my old place in less than a week. Then Christmas. Then my son Sam arrived. Yeah! Then my son left. Awwww. Then I had to get busy sending off applications. Now that I am... M.F.A. Galloway!

Well besides the domestic what else? Well Wally won a Silver award from the Spotlight Documentary Film Awards. The Silver Awards are awarded to "unforgettable films". So pretty cool eh? Don't believe me? Well then check out their website: http://www.spotlightdocawards.com/2016awards.html . Its in the December 2016 section. Also the Socially Relevant Film Festival seems to be very interested in Wally as well.

Meanwhile, pressed by submission dates I went ahead and began to submit The Eviction to festivals. Its running time is 39:57. That's an odd time you might say. Well as most festivals count above 40 minutes as a Feature Documentary I made it that length. The Festival I was in a rush to get into was Denton's own Thin Line Film Fest.

Even though they have rejected all of my prior attempts I think alot of it has to do with the politics connected with the University. For example, they sent me the nicest rejection letter I have ever gotten from a festival for Wally. They were truly apologetic and even offered me free tickets to see other movies. Am I sorry? Well a little because it deprived Denton of seeing this film that has won awards and prestige in other festivals. But all you can do is keep moving forward.

Meanwhile opportunities for The Eviction seem favorable. Beyond Thin Line, I also have submitted it to other festivals such as the Dallas Video Fest and the Southern Circuit of Independent Filmmakers. It would be really cool if I made it into the Southern Circuit as that would include travel to cities and a daily stipend.

Of course that all depends if it makes it into the Festival or not. Other festivals were entered including one in London. I will let you know more as things progress.

So what am I going to be working on in the meantime and in between time? Well as Sam came into town, and I got a Cannon 7D I got some footage and hope to turn it into a mini doc.

Was I excited... you bet. So that was it for this week. Be on the lookout for more announcements from Festivals. Also as I am sending out applications who knows where I might be moving to. Later this week be on the alert for a Doc in the Spotlight. Keep it reel! (See what I did there... Reel... like film... :P)
